WATER - NATIONAL GROUP SHOW

About the exhibition:

This exhibition explores interpretations of water through the creative process in mixed-media, sculpture, video, photography, digital art and installation. As Bruce Lee said, “Be formless, shapeless… Be water, my friend.” Both art and water are vital for life, and they share the ability to be many things and transcend a specific form. June 6-9, 2019.

Introducing four of the ten artists exhibiting:

Antonia Dimitrova

Antonia  living and working in Miami uses intermodal process, to catalyze dialogues that explore tensions between lived experience and human longing.   She layers movement, sound, written word and image, to process personal memories and experiences, giving voice to new narratives of awareness, growth, reconciliation and deepened spirituality.

Krista Machovina

Krista  is a painter and mixed media artist, with training as an art therapist and art educator. As an artist, Krista draws inspiration from the natural world, in particular the sea and sky, vintage ephemera and found objects. These elements create a narrative of every changing boundaries; those that merge, some diffuse and others starkly clear. The human presence is noticeably absent in the paintings of the sea, creating a meditative, immersive environment for the viewer.

Survival Series pieces are visual interpretations of vintage survival manuals, the content of which I found applicable to dealing with personal challenges and inspired me to do some related self help writing. In these pieces, my ever favorite theme of water is present, this time as a condition to which one must adapt and navigate to survive.

Gregory Grano

Gregory  is a filmmaker and educator based in Los Angeles. His first feature documentary explored trust, fear, and the “stranger” across the US, while his recent work has evolved into multimedia experiences, connecting humans, nature, and identity through visual stories. I’m A Tree was filmed primarily in the High Sierras of California, and is the first in a triptych of film installations celebrating energetic life in entities of nature.

Reenie Charrière

Reenie is obsessed with how objects accumulate in our everyday spaces. Her work is motivated by the drama of landscapes and waterways, urban and rural. She gathers and transforms everyday materials, especially throwaways. Her sculptural installations play upon the unpredictable juxtaposition of natural and synthetic matter.

TIME - NATIONAL GROUP SHOW

About the exhibition:

What is time? Is it a thing? Does it even exist? Can we move forward and backwards in time as Physics shows or are we only moving forward within the Arrow of Time? Can time be spiritual, existential, metaphysical or only scientific? This exhibition will explore interpretations of time through the creative process in all medias.

'TIME' SOME OF THE ARTISTS PARTICIPATING

Chiho Harazaki

Chiho was born and raised in the countryside of Japan. She spent every summer of her childhood with her sculptor uncle at his studio in the mountains. His lifestyle and his thoughts about art were a big influence on her.

After she moved to the US, she found her true happiness and purpose in making art. Ever since her first tape art piece was selected for her college's student art exhibition in 2014, Harazaki has been fascinated by using electrical tape for her art. Tiny pieces of tape, cut by precision knife and scissors, create each detail used to compose a whole picture. The hand-cut shapes and lines are reminiscent of traditional Japanese arts like woodcut and paper cutting. Informed by her experiences living in both Japan and America, Harazaki's subject matter includes a variety of cultural, historical, architectural, and lifestyle elements.

IN FLIGHT - MATTHEW STORK

FEATURED ARTISTS: Matthew Stork exploring the metaphor of flying through mixed media and augmented reality. "Concepts of Animism and Semiotics influence my mixed-media work combining drawing, painting and found objects including discarded technology and natural-world objects. These works create emotions, thoughts, questions and answers experienced within the viewers mind. Alternately, via Augmented Reality, the works can be experienced not just internally but also externally where other viewers can see, interact, and share. Transforming the static form into a virtual kinetic form."
